Milton Allen was my Great Uncle. He was a brother to my grandmother, Laura Ermine Allen Huber. They were children of Samuel S. Allen and Sarah E. Dewitt Allen. Milton born in 1860 and Laura was born in 1862. Samuel Allen died in 1864 in Andersonville Prison in Georgia when my grandmother was 2 years of age.
After Samuel Allen did not return from the war, Sarah E. Dewitt Allen married William Robert Hash. W. R. Hash apparently did not take her children to raise and they were raised by their grandparents, William J. and Elizabeth Pickerell Allen.

In the 1880 LaRue County Census, Milton is listed as 19 years of age and living with his grandparent, William J. Allen.

According to His Death certificate, Milton D. Allen died February 24, 1937 of Lobar Pneumonia which came on him on February 19, 1936. He also had Chronic Myocarditis for the last five years of his life. He was a widower, age 76 years, 8 months old. His trade was given as Carpenter. Birthplace LaRue County, Father - Samuel Allen, also born in LaRue County. His mother's maiden name was Sarah Dewitt, born in LaRue County. The informant on his Death Certificate was Sarah Sullivan (his dau) who live at the same address as he, 1797 Indiana Ave, Louisville, KY. He was buried in Evergreen Cemetery on February 26, 1937. The Undertaker was McDaniel Bros at 4337 Park Blvd (Highland Park) Louisville, KY. His death Certificate was signed by Delbert Hoffman, M.D. of 308 Avery, Louisville, KY.
Death Cert. file no. 4584, Registered No. 1192, place of death, Jefferson Co.

Previous reference to Milton had his name as David Milton Allen, but as a result of this Death Certificate I have changed my files to indicate his name as Milton David Allen. He apparently had always been referred to as Milton.

His Granddaughter, Bernice Wolfson of Louisville, KY. reported that he worked for a time at the South Park Fishing Club in Jefferson County, KY.

Bernice also said Milton was a cousin to Betty Allen Andrews. Betty Allen married Frank Andrews and had one daughter, Mildred Andrews that married a Schultz. Bernice also said Betty Allen had a sister, Josephene (Josie) Allen that married a Manion and they had a daughter, Elizabeth manning that married a Brownfield.
Frank and Betty Andrews once operated small stores at Brooks, Ky and one at Strawberry Lane and Old Third Street Road. In later years, they were caretakers at the old South Park Fishing Club.

I (Russell) have a nice photo of Betty Allen Andrews with Tea Huber Florence.
Betty was a large woman and was using a cane. I remember she used to visit Mom and Mom would go see her when she lived in Fairdale. If she was a cousin to Milton, she must have been at least a second cousin, or a 1st cousin, removed.
