Bio of James McKinlay Daves.
James McKinlay Daves, the eldest child of John Pugh and Jane Reid (Henry) Daves, of Newbern [sic], North Carolina, was born on December 27, 1816, and entered Yale at the opening of Sophomore year. A younger sister married John W. Ellis (Univ. of N.C. 1841), Governor of North Carolina from 1859 to 1861.
He became a planter, and died by his own hand in Newbern [sic], on July 2, 1838, in his 22d year.
