American Republican
September 3, 1844

Died in Brandywine township, Chester County, on the 14th ult., Robert Ralston,
Esq., in the 62d year of his age. He was a Ruling Elder, in the Congregation of
the Forks of the Brandywine- He was an active and useful member of society,
extensively known throughout the county, having successively filled the offices
of Register and Recorder, and was by all respected.

The manner of his death, was such as made it peculiarly afflictive to his friends and relatives, and most solemnly admonitory to all the living. He was
engaged in carting out manure. He left the house about 11 o'clock, in all the vigor of health, and had gone to the field alone. He was found in about half an hour, crushed before the cart wheel- was carried to the house, and before 1 o'clock, was numbered with the dead.

Such sudden and awful visitations of Divine Providence, surely speak the language of admonition, and should awaken all to earnest effort to be themselves
prepared for the dread realities which are to come hereafter, and may come so
soon.

August 20, 1844

It is under feelings of deep sorrow that we announce the death of Robert
Ralston, of West Nantmeal, n Wednesday last. He had been engaged we understand,
in hauling manure from the barn-yard to an adjacent field, and while loading,
the horse became frightened and was about to start off, when the deceased, in
moving forward to arrest him, slipped and fell, and the wheel of the cart passed
over his neck, killing him instantly.

The death of this amiable and worthy man, will be deplored by all who knew him.
He filled the office of Register and Recorder, of this county, for six years, so
demeaning himself during his entire official career, as to command the
approbation and good will of all who had intercourse with him; and we may truly
say of him, that in all the relations of life, he was universally beloved and
respected.
