Elizabeth was the daughter of Washington and Sarah (Russell) Case. She married William Elliott Chappell on 6 Mar.,1856 in Pike Co.,In. They were the parents of 9 children: McLeod Washington b.30 Jun.,1857; Stephen R. (Russell) b. 23 Sept.,1858; Austin McCrillis b. 19 Feb.,1860; William Tucumesh Sherman b. 4 Nov.,1861; Roten N. b. 1 Nov.,1865; James Lawrence b. 19 Dec.,1866; Carrie Ellen b. 1 Jul.,1870; Margaret A. (Ann) b. 20 Jul.,1872; and Fredrick E. (Elliott) b. 20 Jul.,1875.

Note: In the 1930's or whenever Beulah B. Gray wrote the Chappell family history, all were married and : McLeod was married to Nancy Ann Arthur and living in Minden,Nebr.; Stephen was in Petersburg,In.; Austin & Tucumseh were in Prescott, Ark.;James was in Wash.,Ind.; Roten was in Patoka,Ind.; Carrie was married to Perry Anderson and lived in Ireland,Ind.; Margaret was married to Paris Traylor and living in Jefferson Twp.,Pike Co.,Ind.; and Fred was in Enid, Okla.

Note : Again the middle names in parentheses are educated guesses and not the Gospel truth. Treat them as such. Anyone who knows for sure, please contact me. I was fairly sure that Tucumesh S. was named after William Tucumesh Sherman, the Union general who was in the news at the time of his birth, then I found a census where he was listed as William and that did it.
