James was the 6th child and son born to William Elliott and Elizabeth (Case) Chappell. I have an account of bravery for James in 1900 which I will post later.
I also believe that James was probably so upset over the loss of his wife and daughter, that he joined the Army and was cited for bravery in the Spanish American War in 1900.
I believe that James was married first to Sarah Adeline "Sallie" McClure on 25 Jul., 1893 in Pike Co., In. She died 2 weeks after the birth of a daughter in Oct., 1896 and is buried with her daughter in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Petersburg, Pike Co., In.
He later married Carrie Louise Stewart from N. C.
