Armstrong – Services for Austin Harold Fretty, 77, Armstrong, were held Monday afternoon at the Free Methodist Church, Armstrong, with the Rev. Charles Fender Jr. and the Rev. Robert Osborn officiating. Interment was in Armstrong Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Fretty died Friday, Aug. 25, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, Minn. Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Armstrong, was in charge of arrangements.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Fretty, he was born March 1, 1901, at Paxton, Ill. He came to the Swea City area as a child, received his education in Swea City schools and was married to Bernice Maves March 12, 1936, at Armstrong. The Frettys farmed northwest of Armstrong for 34 years until retiring and moving to Armstrong in 1970.

Mr. Fretty was a member of the Armstrong Free Methodist Church, served on the Emmet County Conservation Board, Emmet County Health Board and was a member of the Armstrong Senior Citizens.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice, Armstrong; two daughters, Mrs. James (Lavonne) Kirk, Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Canada, and Mrs. Allen (Betty Lou) Blue, Colfax; four grandchildren; three brothers, Russell Fretty, Milwaukee, Minn., Milton Fretty, Minneapolis, Minn., and Walter Fretty, Austin, Minn.; two sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Mildred) Miles and Mrs. Earl (Hazel) Hansen, both of Sisters, Ore.

Mr. Fretty was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and three sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 28, 1978)
