Elkhart - Paul W. Messner, 81, of 1222 Canton St. , died at 5:24 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 23, 1998) in the emergency room at Elkhart General Hospital after an extended illness.
Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at Billings Funeral Home. The rosary and funeral services will immediately follow, with the Rev. Richard P. Hire of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Chirch officiating. The body will be cremated.
Mr. Messner was born on March 17, 1917 in Goshen, where he married Lucile V. Shank on Jan. 19, 1936.
His wife survives with a son, James A. of Goshen; two daughters, Mrs. Jerry (RaeAnn) Lane and Linda L. Raifsnider, both of Elkhart; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. A brother Dale; and a sister, Helen Ganger, are deceased.
Mr. Messner retired in 1978 as a painter from Adams & Westlake Ltd., where he had worked for more than 35 years. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church and enjoyed sports and fishing.
Memorials may be given to the Annual Bishop's Appeal, The American Heart Association or the church.
