Paulene Maye Bauer was born at home on April 19, 1929. The home was built by her Great Grandfather John Mill in 1903. Her father was John William Bauer and her mother was Maidie Virginia "Norton" Bauer.
Paulene became a Type 1 diabetic at age 5 or 6. She grew slowly.
When Paulene was young she rode horse, played in the fields and barn, and went to school at Cheney Washington. Paulene had many chores at home which included cooking with her mother, cleaning the house and feeding the cattle every day. Paulene loved living on the family farm. Paulene graduated from Cheney High School in 1947.
While Paulene attended Cheney Schools she met a man named Tommy Presnell. Tommy worked for her father, John, on the family farm. Paulene fell in love.
After graduation from high school Paulene attended Eastern Washington College for two years. During her college years Tommy Presnell served in the US Army. After Tommy was released from active duty the two married on September 29, 1949. The two lived with Paulene's grandparents, Frank and Lilly Norton in Cheney Washington at first. Things were tight but there was a lot of love in the home.
Paulene's father, John, purchased some land on the outskirts of the north end of Cheney Washington around 1950. This was the start of the Presnell Trailer Park. Either her father John or her grandparents Frank and Lilly Norton helped by the first trailers to rent.
Paulene and Tommy loved children. Her special ones were Leon and Mickey Marion, her sister's boys and David and Dale Bauer, her brother's boys. they wanted their own.
Paulene and Tommy had a son. He was named Bryon. Bryon did shortly after birth. Diabetes complications. Paulene was very distraught and broke down. Her husband Tommy took her to see their doctor. Paulene went to the Cheney Rest Home for care. She died on March 1, 1961. Paulene is buried at her brother's feet, Lee, at Spokane Memorial Gardens, Spokane Washington.
Bonnie Presnell, Tommy Presnell's 2nd wife is quoted as saying " Everyone in the Presnell Family thinks of her as an angle." Paulene died from un-controlled diabetes.
She was loved so much by the family and is still missed.
