He was the son of John Marion and Sarah (Ables) Barnes and married Alease Bedwell - 13 Nov 1942 - Montgomery Co., Alabama.

James Marion Barnes, a 45-year-old resident of the Taft community in Lincoln County, was shot-gunned to death last Thursday night...

Mr. Barnes, of Route 1, Taft, was killed inside "Blackie's," an establishment operated by E. H. "Blackie" Brindley, of Fayetteville, for years on Highway 64, about four miles east of Fayetteville.

Funeral services for the victim were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Higgins Funeral Home by I. C. Pullias. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

A native of Lincoln County, he was the son of John M. Barnes, of Fayetteville, and the late Sarah Ables Barnes. He was a veteran of World War II, a member of the American Legion, Towry Post 42, and a member of the Moose Lodge.

Survivors, in addition to his father, are his stepmother, Mrs. Fannie S. Barnes, and a sister, Mrs. Weldon W. Castile, of Hazel Green, Alabama.
