She was the daughter of William M. and Sallie Narcissus (Sisk) Ables and married John Marion Barnes - 13 Jul 1913 - Lincoln Co., Tennessee. Her obituary follows:

Mrs. Sarah Barnes, aged 34 years and wife of Mr. John Barnes, died at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville Sunday, August 25, 1929. She was reared in Lincoln County but for seven years had lived in Nashville. The remains were brought to Fayetteville and service conducted at the Christian Church on Tuesday morning by Elders Largen and Little, burial at Rose Hill Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, two sons, and a daughter.
