GEORGE REINHARD WALTZ

Son of John Waltz (1768-1851) and Mary Margaret Hausen (1770-1848)

Birth: April 25, 1795, Allegany County, Maryland

Baptized: September 24, 1799, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Salem, Virginia, by Rev. John Stough. "Parents: Johannes and Margareta Waltz; Witnesses: Georg and Susana Reinhard" (Page 23, Line 1 - The Aurora Documents, An Accurate and Complete Translation of Books I and II of the Original Records of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Aurora, Preston County, West Virginia: Karl K. Grower, McClain Printing Company, Parsons West Virginia, 1983.) Note: Subsequently, Salem became known as: Mount Carmel, German Settlement, West Union, and finally its present name of Aurora.

Burial: Waltz Cemetery, Section 6, Lot 7, Medina, Ohio

Married Catherine Yantz Hauser, daughter of Adam Hauser (1768-1851) and Sivilla Yantz (1774-1846) on September 8, 1822, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Cumberland, Maryland, Rev. Christian F. Heyer, officiating. Of this union, 6 children: Mary Ann (1824-1910), John Adam (1826-1857), Sivilla MArgaret (1827-1908), George Washington (1829-1915), Eliza Jane (1835-1889), and Catharine Eva (1838-1923).

George emigrated from Maryland to Wayne County, Ohio landing there with his family on October 20, 1835, moving to Lafayette Twp., Medina County, in the following spring. He was an early member of the United Brethren Church, before its organization in Medina County, giving liberally toward the support of the new United Brethren Church in Medina County and donating the grounds for the new church and its cemetery, the Waltz Cemetery.
