He graduated from Ellis High School and was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He married Ruby Werth on Aug. 31, 1957, in Hays.
He was a postal clerk in the U. S. Post Office for 29 years. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1325 and Perpetual Adorers, all of Hays.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby, of the home; two sons, Claude Augustine and wife, Becky, Hutchinson, and Clair Augustine and wife, Colette, Johnson County; a daughter, Laura Augustine, Hays; two brothers, Lawrence Augustine, Lincoln, Neb., and Leroy Augustine, St. Charles, Mo.; four sisters, Frances Pfannenstiel, Denver, Anna Erbert, Aurora, Colo., Julie Werth, Wichita, and Gladys Reiff, Salina; five grandchildren, Renee Augustine, Mychal Augustine, Ellie Augustine, Alec Augustine and Abby Augustine.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Blaine, and three brothers, Phil, Adolph and Ted.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church; burial with military honors by the Hays American Legion in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays. There will be a Perpetual Adorers rosary at 4 p.m., a parish vigil service at 6:30 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7 p.m., all today at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church or Masses.
