Coy was one of 11 children of Joseph Henderson Fox & Susan Bright. In 1932 he married Hattie Mae Simmons and they had 4 sons, Joe, Chuck, Bobby and Jimmy.

Coy attained an 8th grade education in Choctaw Co. MS and later attended a mechanic school in Detroit MI and was a mechanic by trade. From 1932 to 1941, he was employed as foreman at Prichards International Trucks, Jackson, MS while living at 402 Huron St. His children. Joe, Charles and Bobby were born while the family lived there. Sometime after WWII started the family moved to 301 Ouachita St. in Monroe, LA and Coy was foreman at the International shop there. Jimmy was born while the family lived there. Later Coy was co- owner of Bernelle and Fox Garage in West Monroe, LA. and the family moved to a house on S. Riverfront in West Monroe .

In the spring of 1948, Coy moved the family to Choctaw Co. MS to raise cotton on the farm of Hugh and Ophie (Coy's sister) Reed. Coy began to have asthma problems and after the crop was harvested, he went to Phoenix on the doctor's advice and did better and bought a house . He returned to Mississippi for the family but his health problems returned. He was too ill to drive and family friend, Bruill Simpson, drove the 1937 Chevy pulling a trailer with family possession and 3 adults and 4 kids in the car to Phoenix.

Coy died in Phoenix, AZ in the process of moving west for health reasons. Hattie Fox and her boys returned to MS.
