Died Monday, June 6, 1994. He was born Sept. 2, 1922, in Ruston, and a resident of Baton Rouge. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Winifred "Winnie" Lindsay Gill; two daughters, Jane Gill, Baton Rouge, and Wyn Gill Spiller and her husband, Steven of Nevada City, Calif.; three grandchildren, Lindsay, Katherine and Ross Spiller; a brother, Dr. Clinton R. Gill and his wife, Hope of Shreveport; and nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, Eva Morrow and Michael Baughman Gill, Ruston;three brothers, M.B. Gill Jr., Coral Gables, Fla., W.M. Gill, San Antonio, Texas, and B.C. Gill, Beaumont, Texas; and a sister, Evelyn G. Plotz, St. Louis, Mo. He was a graduate of Louisiana Polytechnic, Ruston, the graduate school of LSU, Baton Rouge, and a graduate of Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from Ethyl Corp. as president of the Chemicals Group and a member of the board of directors. He was a past president of the City Club, member of the Baton Rouge Rotary Club and the Baton Rouge Country Club. He was a past director of Parkland Hospital, Baton Rouge, and past director of the Anglo American Art Museum. He was an organizing member of the Baton Rouge Community Fund for the Arts and a member of the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge. He was a Presbyterian elder and member of the First Presbyterian Church, Baton Rouge, prior to that a member of Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church, Walnut Creek, Calif. Honorary pallbearers are H. Parrott Bacot, Larry Bond, Dr. Dewey Carpenter, Rodney Chastain, Donald Diefendorf, M.D., Stephen Henry, John Klock, Charlie Kyle, Paul McKim, Roger Moser, Jerry Newcomb, Charles Nunn, James Riddle, Ray Wilkins, Gerald Miletello, M.D., and Frank Silva, M.D.
Friends are invited to visit at the First Presbyterian Church, 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.Thursday, with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m., the Rev. Dr. Roger O. Green and Mr. P. Clinton Regen, officiating. Private graveside services will be held at Norwood Cemetery, Norwood, La. Arrangements are under the direction of Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Foundation, P.O.
