Wayne was a US Army Air Corps WWII veteran (served in the China, Burma, India theatre) who married Gloria Vaughn Brickley in 1947. He worked as a construction worker for Harbison Walker Refractories and was totally disabled after having his back broken in a construction accident. He bought the homestead in West Decatur, lived there and took care of his mother until her death. Wayne and Gloria had six children: Gary Lee Shaw, Dennis Wayne Shaw, Judith Elaine Boal Shaw, Donna Rae Knepp Conrad Shaw, Wayne Robert Shaw Jr, and Christina Louise Bloom Shaw. After Wayne and Gloria divorced Wayne and Dorothy Spade had a daughter; Toni Spade Houghton.
