OBITUARY: GERTRUDE C. COTSWORTH, Mother of Prominent Family Who Came to Oak Park in 1899 Passes Away, Aged Eighty-two Gertrude Gouverneur Cotsworth, wife of Albert Cotsworth, passed away Friday, August 4, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Walter D. Herrick of River Forest, where she was taken when her illness became serious.
Services Sunday afternoon were conducted by a close personal friend of Mr. Cotsworth, Dr. William H. Body, former pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Chicago, now pastor of Westminster church of Minneapolis. Interment was in Forest Home.
Born in Mayslick, Ky., September 12, 1851, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Charles P. Jennings. Her father was a Presbyterian minister, who later became an Episcopal rector. Mrs. Cotsworth was married in Louisiana, Mo., September 12, 1876. In 1899 she and Mr. Cotsworth came to make their home in Oak Park and some years later moved to Chicago. In 1926, Mr. and Mrs. Cotsworth celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary.
Mrs. Cotsworth's family includes Gertrude Herrick (Mrs. Walter D. Herrick of River Forest) and their children, Gertrude, Julia, Walter Jr. and Mary, Staats J. Cotsworth, his wife, Dorothy, and sons Staats and John Littlefield of St. Davids, Penn.; Albert Cotsworth Jr., his wife, Hazel, and children Charles Seabury, Marguerite and Albert Cotsworth of Oak Park.
