Mary was born October 2, 1947, to Joseph and Monica(O'Neil)Scieszinski in Ottuamwa. She married William"Jack"John Knowles August 31, 1968 at St. Patdrick's Catholic Church in Melrose. After 36 years together, he preceded her in death on June 23, 2005. Mary graduated from Albia High School. She worked for Monroe Plastics, Chamberlain's, and A.Y.M, all in Albia, before retiring and working for Monroe Care Center. Mary was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia and past member of St. Patrick's Altar and Rosary Society in Georgetown. She enjoyed singing and going to the Follies. She also liked attending sporting events, the county fair, and plays. She especially loved time spent with her family.
Mary is survived by three children, Bill(Chris)Knowles of Albia, Michele Knowles of West Liberty, and Dan Knowles of West Des Moines; four grandchildren, Travis, Becca, Dylan, and Ashlee Knowles; a sister-in-law, Ellen Wobbeking; and a brother-in-law, Ed Knowles.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a brother, Joseph Scieszinski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am, Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia, with Fr. Michael E. Volkmer, C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Melrose. Visitation will be 11 am-8 pm Monday, May 27, 2013, at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with the family present throughout the day and evening. A rosary will be led by St. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society at 4 pm, with a Christian wake service beginning at 6 pm, Monday evening at the funeral home. Memorials maybe made to Monroe County Hospice or to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia.
