Other Children:

Elizabeth Frances Beresford Lovelace (cremated; no memorial found)
Stuart Richard Beresford (3-5-1907 - 11-8-1983); no memorial found

NOTE: There was a misunderstanding on someone's part about everybody's relationship to my half-sister, Mary Treat Beresford Owens. This misinformation got transferred to other memorials, and someone needs to fix it. Mary was not Alexander's daughter; she was the daughter of his son Lester, and therefore Alexander's GRANDdaughter.

Obituary (some errors corrected) from Boulder (CO) Daily Camera, November 17, 1930:

Alexander Morrison Beresford, resident of Boulder for nearly a quarter-century and well-known justice of the peace, died at his home, 1064 Thirteenth Street, at 10:30 o'clock last night [November 16, 1930] after a prolonged illness. He was 72 years old.

An operation he underwent recently was successful and he had returned to his office, but about two months ago he suffered a relapse and had been confined to bed in the Sanitarium and later at his home since then.

Judge Beresford was elected Justice two years ago and re-elected, unopposed, for another term which would have started last January.

He was born January 5, 1858, at Steubenville, OH. He moved, with his parents, to Vinton, IA, where he lived for many years. In 1881 he was graduated from Iowa State college at Ames, receiving a B.S. degree.

After two years more study he was admitted to the practice of law in Iowa in 1883.

He opened an office in Orleans, NE, and there was married in 1887 to Charlotte Frances Treat, of Claridon, OH. He was county attorney at Orleans for two terms, but decided to move to Boulder in 1906 in order that his children could be educated here.

All of Judge and Mrs. Beresford's eight children attended Boulder schools and were prominent as undergraduates in the University of Colorado.

Judge Beresford's mother, Mrs. Sarah Beresford, who is 93 years old, is living at the family home in Vinton, IA. Her husband died some time ago.

Besides his mother and his widow, Judge Beresford is survived by two brothers, Abraham and Howard, of Vinton, IA; one sister, Mrs. Mary Moon, of Minneapolis; and the following children: [Robert omitted from this list as family was ashamed of his mental illness]; Mrs. Elizabeth Lovelace, Evanston, IL, who arrived today; Howard Beresford, Colorado U. basketball coach; Stuart Beresford, Brush (CO?); Ted Beresford, Evanston, IL; Paul Beresford, Mart, TX; Kenneth Beresford, Trinidad (CO); and Lester Beresford, Los Angeles, who is enroute to Boulder. He is western manager of the Ideal Power Lawn Mower Co.

Judge Beresford was a member of the [line deleted] and of the Modern Woodmen and A.O.U.W.

The funeral service will be held at the Tippett-Hall-Kelso mortuary Wednesday at 2:30 o'clock.

This was my grandfather. Cause of death was cancer (considered shameful at that time).
