Joseph Bernardi Civretto was born May 4, 1856 in Muriaglio, Italy to Giacinto Bernardi Civretto and Maria Troya. He came to the United States through the port of New Orleans, Louisiana in November 1881. He had two brothers that also came to the Black Hills and settled in Terrville, Lead, and Belle Fourche. Brother's Names were Peter Civretto and Steve Civretto. Both have baptism records of Bernardi Civretto, Pietro born January 8, 1853 and Stefano born January 6, 1858. They had other siblings from Muriaglio, Catterina born December 3, 1848 and Margarita born September 16, 1850. Joseph Civretto married Rose Domenica Ferrero-Perolin, who came to Terraville in early 1891, at his Terraville home on June 23, 1891. They had four children Jesse b.1892, Mary b. 1894, Martin b. 1896 and Joseph b. 1897. Joseph Civretto died July 4, 1897 with an unknown cause of death and is buried at Minnesela Cemetery SE of Belle Fourche. Peter Civretto died November 16, 1897 after a mining accident. Stephen Civretto returned to Italy and died in Muriaglio, Italy on April 14, 1899.
