John Thomas Albritton was born near Snow Hill, in Wilcox County Alabama, the son of Allen Albritton and Susannah (Susan) Ford. He married Nancy M. M. Taylor on 9 July 1853 in Wilcox County Alabama. In 1860, he and his family farmed near Snow Hill, working the farm of his first cousin, Peter James Albritton. John T. Albritton enlisted as a private on 30 April 1862 at Snow Hill, Alabama in Company C, 44th Regiment Alabama Infantry. He served throughout the War, receiving a parole at Appomattox Court House on 10 April 1865.

In 1870, John and Nancy lived at Snow Hill, and he worked as a merchant and maintained a planting operation on his farm. Between 1868 and the early 1870s, John purchased the farm of his brother in Union Parish Louisiana. It is not known if John lived there for a few years in the early 1870s, but by 1875 he and Nancy lived in Robertson County Texas. By 1880, they had settled in Navarro County Texas. John and Nancy died within a few months of each other in 1881.
