Son of Cyril and Sally or Sarah Tiffany Call married Mary Flint and later joined the Mormon Church. "He was closely associated with the Prophet Joseph [Smith, 1805-1844], and with the saints was driven from his home. He had a great love for the Prophet and did all he could to protect him from the mobs." Smith once said of Call: "There is Anson. He shall go [to the West] and shall assist in building cities from one end of the country to the other." Call started West in a company led by Brigham Young, the second president of the LDS Church. Call came to Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1848. He helped settle Bountiful, the Little Salt Lake Valley, "Pauvant Valley" (Fillmore), Box Elder and Davis Counties, all in Utah, and Carson Valley, Nevada.

Also married to his brother Josiah's widow Henrietta Williams Call.
