Charleston - George E. McFadden, former principal of the East Prairie and Charleston High Schools, died Sunday at a nursing home here. He was 81 years old.
Mr. McFadden was born Sept, 19, 1883, in Knox City, Mo., the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Henry (Minnie Westphal) McFadden.
He was a graduate of Northeast Missouri State Teachers College at Kirksville. He was married in 1906 to Mrs. Gertrude McFadden, who survives at a nursing home here. Where the couple resided since August.
Mr. McFadden had been a resident of Charleston for 50 years at the time of his death. After serving as principal at the East Prairie school, he took a similar position at Charleston. He retired from that job nine years ago at the mandatory retirement age of 72.
He was a charter member of the First Christian Church of Charleston.
Survivors are his wife; five daughters, Mrs. Glen Hutson, Mrs. Richard Saliba, Mrs. Milas Bryan, Mrs. Wm. Tinnel and Mrs. Russell Fox; two sons, Kermit McFadden and Keith McFadden; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel here Tuesday. Burial will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
