Raymond L. Adkins, son of Leonard and Cornelia Adkins, was born August 25, 1905 at Delavan, Illinois and passed from this life in the Burgess Memorial hospital at Onawa on April 20. Death came following a long illness. He had reached the age of 59 years, four months and five days.

Ray had served as superintendent of utilities of the city of Onawa for the past 37 years, having been a resident her for about 55 years.

June 25, 1950 he was united in marriage with Leah Lowell. To this union one daughter, Terry Rae was born.

April 13, 1947 he accepted the Christ as his Savior and was baptized in the First Christian Church of Onawa. Ray was a great lover of the out-of-doors and enjoyed nature in every way. At the time of his passing he was serving as president of the Outdoor Club, Inc.

He was an active member of the Onawa Kiwanis Club, past president of the Iowa Municipal Utilities Association, a member of the board of directors of the North-West Power Group and a member of the Vesper Lodge, A.F. & A.M., of Onawa.

Survivors include his wife, Leah and daughter, Terry; his mother, Mrs. Cornelia Adkins of South Bend, Ind., and his sister, Pearl Priser of South Bend.

He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Harold and Paul.

The funeral for Mr. Adkins was held at the First Christian Church at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 22. Rev. Everett Epperson officiated. Mrs. Oliver Kelley was the organist.

Active casket bearers were John Tyson, Gunner Olson, Alvin Hyatt, George Struck, Jess Ooten and Everett Sorenson. Honorary bearers were E.C. Myrland, Egan Stangel, Calvin Fox, Earl Snyder, Cliff Mankenberg, Phill Cato, Rex Seitzinger, Leonard Ryan, Ed Thogersen, and Merle Mock. Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral home.
