The Obituary of Harold E. Adkins

Harold E. Adkins, the son of Leonard and Cornelia Adkins was born November 7, 1909 at Breeds, Illinois and passed from this life at his home in Onawa, Iowa, on October 25, 1960. Death came suddenly in the night as a result of a heart attack. He had reached the age of 50 years, 11 months and 18 days.

He was a veteran of World War II. He was a former employee of The Clark Construction Co. He has been a resident of this community for the past 35 years.

On May 29, 1937, he was united in marriage with Bernadine Hedges at Dakota City, Nebraska.

He was a member of the David McNeill Post of the American Legion of Onawa. Early in life he accepted the Christ as his Savior and was united with the First Christian Church of Onawa.

Survivors are his wife, Bernadine; four sons, Kenneth of Little Sioux, Iowa, Edward of El Paso, Texas, Leonard and Thomas both of Sioux City; two daughters, Mrs. Herman (Charlotte) Johnson of Lyons, Nebr and Shirley of Onawa; also his mother, Mrs. Cornelia Adkins of Onawa; seven grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Chas. Priser of South Bend, Ind., and one brother, Raymond Adkins of Onawa.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Paul who died in 1959.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church in Onawa. Rev. Everett Epperson officiated at the service. Mrs. Orland Ferris sang "In The Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset", accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Oliver Kelley. The casket bearers were Charles Bisbee, Don Anderson, Roy Jack, William Strong, Pete Larson and George Bowman. The David McNeill Post of the American Legion of Onawa attended the services at the church and conducted Military Honors at the Onawa Cemetery, Walter Andersen Commander. Arrangements were by the Pearson Funeral Home.
