She was born in Wake Forest, Cabin Creek, Kanawha County, West Virginia and had resided in Kingsport the majority of her life. She was of the Baptist faith. Caroline loved Bluegrass music and especially enjoyed being a regular patron at the Carter Fold. She also enjoyed camping.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, William F. Bowles; her second husband, Elmer J. Varney; her brothers, Jack Aaron Aliff and Billy Joe Aliff; a sister, Patricia Ann Shrewsbury; parents, Joseph Irlan and Myrtle Surber Aliff; her son-in-law, Frederick T. Burdette, and daughter-in-law, Jena Bowles.
Caroline Bowles Varney is survived by her children, Carol Burdette, Jean L. Bowles, David Bowles, and Joseph K. (Punkie) Bowles; grandchildren, Aaron L. Bowles, Shannan Casetta, Eric Burdette, William Bowles, Erika Black; great grandchildren, Cadie Carter, Gabrielle Casetta, Alyssa Casetta, Kylie Hurt, Kinsley Black, Lawson and Crue Raiden Bowles; a special niece and nephew, Dwight and Vanessa Shrewsbury along with numerous friends.
Calling hours will held on Friday (August 21, 2015) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport or friends may also call anytime at the residence.
A celebration of her life will be conducted on Friday (August 21, 2015) at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday (August 22, 2015) at 2 p.m. at East Tennessee Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Family and friends attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m.
