He attended Raising Valley and Red Line Country Schools and later attended Nelson High School. Lyle enlisted in the United States Army on April 2, 1942. He served his country during World War II in the 90th and the 63rd Infantry Divisions. He was wounded in action on April 5, 1945. In Germany, Lyle was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army in December of 1946.
June 12, 1943, at Camp Barkley, Texas, Lyle was united in marriage to Jean Loraine Corliss. Upon his discharge from the military, Lyle returned to Hebron, Nebraska, where he was engaged in farming. He retired from farming in the 1970's.
Lyle was a member of the First Christian Church of Hebron, a lifetime member of Thayer County Goldstar Post No. 5328 V.F.W. of Hebron and also of the DAV.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Edgar and Melvin Jacobitz; and five sisters, Edna Wade, Irene Kalassinsky, Inez Beal, Esther Kimminau and Nellie Ferrell.
Survivors include his wife, Jean of Hebron, Nebraska; one son, Lonny of Hebron, Nebraska; three daughters, Connie Jedlicka and her husband Lumir of Schuyler, Nebraska, Bonnie Bergmeyer and her husband Donald of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Catherine Jacobitz-Tharnish and her husband Scott of Lincoln, Nebraska; one brother, Ivan Jacobitz and his wife Ivalee of Nelson, Nebraska; one sister, Mrs. Evelyn Conger of Valencia, California; two grandchildren, Kristie Bergmeyer and Clay Jedlicka; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 18, 1997, at First Christian Church in Hebron, Nebraska, with John Walton officiating. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by Saxton Post No. 180 American Legion of Hebron, Nebraska.
Music for the service was provided by Hugh Clark who sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "On Eagle's Wings". The congregation sang "How Great Thou Art". Organist for the service was Mrs. Ila Curry. Honorary casketbearers were Dorral Schleif, Ralph Koerwitz, John Jacobitz, Glenn Fischer, Michael Fischer, Harold Fischer, Gene Fischer and James Schroeder. Casketbearers were Kristie Bergmeyer, Clay Jedlicka, Vic Jacobitz, Dan Jacobitz, Bruce Jacobitz and Terre Jacobitz. Services were conducted by Hebron Memorial Funeral Home.
