MINE BLAST DUE TO CARELESSNESS, REPORT OF CORONER'S JURY
Greensburg, May 4, - The death of four nem in the Hutchinson Mine of Westmoreland Coal Company in Sewickley township, near West newton, following an explosion was caused by after damp and methane gass. The blast was caused in an interruption of the air current due to the carelessness of some employee, the jury under Coroner James Harlons, decided Thursday following the inquest.
Three killed in the accident were Bruno Pietraia, Frank Leon, John Kednick, and Louis Kubina.
Kubina and Yednick died from poisonous methane gas while Leon and Pletrail died from afterdamp.
Six witnesses testified at the inquest including Ray Newhouse, mine foreman; Daniel J Loughnr, assistant mine foreman Arthur W Backrirom, the boss Frank J Kejal, Frank Helbet and David Cochenour. Of this number Cochenour was gassed but was carried out and resuscitated.
