Mr. McManners retired from Victor Metal in 1989, after 35 years of service, and was a member of the Tuckerman First Free Will Baptist Church. He was a Sunday School teacher and Superintendent at Ballew's Chapel. Mr. McManners was a United States Army veteran, serving in World War II. He was an expert gunner and received the WWII Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre Ribbon, EAME Theatre Ribbon, and Two Bronze Stars. While in the service, he was in the 717th tank Battalion Company C, and attended reunions for over 30 years. He was a nature lover, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and growing vegetables and sunflowers. He enjoyed watching baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves, and loved traveling. His favorite trip was to Yellowstone National Park, and he always dreamed of going to Alaska.
Mr. McManners was preceded in death his parents; by three brothers, Bobby, W.D., and Lynn McManners; and one sister, Kathryn Howard.
He is survived by his wife, Alta Clark McManners of the home; one son, James McManners of Little Rock, Arkansas; four daughters, Judy Hutchinson of Searcy, Brenda McManners of Cord, Shelia Worthington of Tuckerman, and Vickie Roberson and husband John of Little Rock; one brother, Glen McManners of Jonesboro; two sisters, Edith Bradley of Tuckerman and Christine Terry of Silvis, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Andrea Baker, Denice Heatherly, Michael Langston, Brian Wayland, Chris McManners, Robert Worthington, and Mandy McManners; five great-grandchildren, Andrew Langston, Tate Langston, Parker Langston, Anna Heatherly, and Ben Baker; one very beloved dog, Nick; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at First Free Will Baptist Church of Tuckerman with interment in Cheshier Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
