Born in Prenzlau, Brandenberg, Germany, the son of Christopher Fischer and Anna Sternburg Fischer. Baptized as Carl Gustav Fischer. Husband of Helena Alvenna Döbler Fischer. Father of Ernest, Charles, Bertha, Mary, Fred, Augusta and William. Carl was a tailor and fisherman in Germany. Immigrated to United States in 1888 with wife and six oldest children. They left the Port of Hamburg, Germany aboard the German Steamship Polynesia and arrived at the Port of New York on April 14, 1888. The crossing took three weeks in stormy weather. Settled in Elba Township, Lapeer County, MI. Their farm was located at 3400 W. Newark Road.
