Bernice was born March 17, 1924, in Princeville, the daughter of Leo and Pearl Ross Callery. She married Wayne Vernon Gronewald on June 6, 1946, in Princeville. He died April 29, 2011, in Peoria.
Surviving are one son, John Gronewald of St. Paul, Minn.; three daughters, Patricia (Roger) Frank of Mapleton, Rose Marie (Rollin) Arnett of Prince-ville, and Mary Jo (Ken) Grainger of Chillicothe; nine grandchildren, Robby Choate, Cherie Choate, Andrew (Maresca) Arnett, Rachel (Mark) Francis, Joseph Arnett, Jacob (Sarah) Grainger, Jessica Wolf, Aaron Grainger, and Nathan (Kathy) Grainger; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kathleen (Ted) Kulaga of Iowa, and Mary (Frank) Witting of Florida; and two brothers, Gene (Roberta) Callery of Dunlap, and Joe Callery of LaSalle.
Her parents; one son, Mike Gronewald; one grandson, Ryan Choate; one great-granddaughter, Lily Wolf; and one sister, Dorothy McMullen, preceded her in death.
Bernice attended Illinois State University and was a schoolteacher. She met her husband, Wayne, at the Hub Ball Room in Edelstein, where they were regular attendees. She helped her husband farm and was active in 4-H activities, Local Grange and the Altar & Rosary Society.
Bernice loved her Catholic faith, her Irish heritage and spending time with her family.
She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Dunlap.
Burial will be in St. Mary of the Woods Cemetery in Princeville.
