Royce James Carey was born Aug. 15, 1913 at New Boston, Ill., a son of Robert and Mamie Bliven Carey. He married Vesta Osburn on Oct. 23, 1932 in Keithsburg, Ill.
He had farmed and trained horses and was a member of the United States Trotting Association.
Survivors include his wife Vesta, one daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Charlotte) Hamilton, of Letts; four grandchildren, Kim Hamilton of Port Byron, Ill., Mitch Hamilton of Letts, Mrs. Royal (Lesa) Roland of Grinnell, Iowa, and Mrs. Mike (Tracy) McVey of Terra Haute, Ind.; four great-grandchildren, Nick Roland, Will Roland, Tessa Roland and Kelsey McVey; four brothers, Tom, Rex and Keith all of Columbus Junction and Robert "Pat" of Aledo, Ill., and one sister, Irene Morrison of Columbus Junction.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Roseann, in 1975; and two brothers, Clayton and Leith.
