John Kerr, Sr. was the son of James Kear and Jane Robertson Kear.

John Kerr and Elizabeth (Hogsett) Kerr share a gravestone here. It list the names of their 12 children with some death years and some places. The Kerr Obelisk was "ERECTED 11 NOV 1930 BY V. B. KERR AND NEPHEWS." (That's Vincent Brown Kerr, author of 36 pages titled Brief history of Kerrs and kin, 1730-1930, Staunton, VA, 1930.)

"My father, James Kerr, died on Sonday, the 5th day of January, 1812, aged 86, and mother, Jane Kerr, died Wednesday, the eleventh day of February, One Thousand Eight Hundred and twenty fore, her age Eighty-five."

John Kerr gives his children's birth dates as follows (in same book):

Nathaniel Kerr was born in Oct. 7 in the yere of Lord 1801.

John Kerr was born Mar. forth in the yere of Lord 1803

Saley G Kerr was born in the yere of Lord Jan. 26, 1805

Alexander Kerr was born January 29 in the yere 1807.

Hiram Kerr was born in August the 8 in the yere 1808

Betsy Kerr was born in March the 24 in the yere Lord 1813.

I suspect that his listed children on his marker, are cenotaphs and not actually buried here. I'm not sure James and Jane Kear are buried here either. A lot of markers in Scotland list many family members, despite where they are buried, to document the family.
