Elizabeth was the daughter of German emigrants Diedrich Gluesing and Margaretha First Gluesing who were born in Prutz,Ger. She married Henry Bernard Eseke on Dec. 18, 1884 in Jefferson Co., IA. While Henry went to Washington looking for work, Elizabeth and her children lived with the Gluesing family. Her sister Mary Gluesing Robeson and one brother John W. Gluesing became dentists and had lucrative careers. Elizabeth on the other hand had a difficult life.
