Leona Mouw, age 80, of Alton died Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, July 6, at 10:00am, at the Alton Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Stanley Van Der Weide officiated. Burial followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City under the direction of the Dolman Funeral Home, Orange City.

Leona Esther was born July 4, 1921, at Orange City, the daughter of Herman and Hattie (Wielenga) Mouw. She was raised at Orange City. As a teenager, she moved to Alton, where she made her home the rest of her life.

For many years, Leona was an accountant at Silent Sioux in Orange City, retiring in 1972.

Miss Mouw was an active member of the Alton Presbyterian Church, where she served as treasurer for several years.
A victim of polio, she had a strong will and was determined to care for herself as much as possible.

Survivors include a brother, Peter Mouw of Sioux City, nephews and nieces, and many friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred Mouw and Harry Mouw, and four sisters, Arta Baier, Hermina Douma, Bertha Roetman, and Gertrude Ter Hark.

Memorials may be directed to the Gideons or the Cancer Society.
