Evening Times, Cumberland, Maryland, November 28, 1914: "Mr. John McGreevy, Sr. died Thursday morning at the home of his son, Bernard, in Paradise, a suburb of Midland. Mr. McGreevy was one of the community's most beloved and respected citizens, and although he was in failing health for some time, his death came as a shock and surprise. Mr. McGreevy was born in Durham county, England, 75 years ago. He married Miss Elizabeth McPartland, and came to this country in 1870, settling in Indiana, where he remained two years. He then came to Westernport, and was engaged in coal mining ever since coming to Ocean, 18 years ago. Since the death of his wife, nine years ago, he made his home with his children. He is survived by three sons-Bernard, John Jr., and Owen-and three daughters-Mrs. James D. Kenney, of Midland; Mrs. James Bryson and Mrs. John Kirk of Wilmerding, Pa."

Evening Times, Cumberland, Maryland, December 1, 1914: "The funeral of John McGreevy took place yesterday from the home of his son, Bernard. Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 9:30 o'clock, Rev. James Quinn, celebrant. The mass was sung by the children's choir under the direction of Sr. Mary Germain, of the Notre Dame convent. Grandsons of the deceased acted as pallbearers, and despite the weather, which was very disagreeable, the funeral was well attended, both by friends from Midland and nearby towns. A beautiful sermon on "A Life Well Spent," was delivered by Rev. Father Galalgher, (sic) of Westernport."

Contributor's Note: John and Elizabeth had two other children whose date of death/burial cannot be confirmed as records do not exist during that time. They are likely buried at St. Peter's Cemetery in Westernport. They are:

Mary Matilda McGreevy Cullen, known as Matilda, born October 28, 1851 in Crook, Durham England. Married Timothy Cullen at St. Peter's in Westernport October 1, 1879, died between 1880-1882, probably in Westernport.

James Patrick McGreevy, born November 24, 1876 Bloomington, Garrett, Maryland, died after 1880, probably in Bloomington.
