Imogene was a victim of the New London school explosion of 1937. Her sisters Laura and Martha were also victims.

Imogene was the twelveth of thirteen children born to John Wesley Houser and Ollie Lee Hudgens Houser. She, along with her two sisters were living with their older sister, Pauline Houser Powell so they could attend this new school.
Imogene wrote letters home to her family about the school and teachers.

Martha, Laura Lee and Imogene were waiting outside the main building at the end of the school day to go home when the explosion happened. They were hit with falling debris and bricks.
