The Rev. Martin William Flegel, 74, died Sunday, April 18, 1976, in a two-car collision seven miles west of Georgetown on Highway US 521.

The Rev. Flegel was born October 8, 1901, in Gettysburg, PA, a son of the late Martin Johnson Flegel and Mrs. Catherine Elizabeth Izer Flegel. He attended Georgetown University in Washington, DC, and was graduated from Holmes Theological Seminary in Greenville.

He was a member of the South Carolina Conference of the Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a member of the Oak Ridge Church for 50 years. He was retired.

Ther Rev. Flegel was an architect and an artist. He served in the US Navy during World War I and was a member of the American Legion.

He was survived his widow, Mrs. Myrtle McCants Flegel of the Oak Ridge Community near Andrews; two sons, Martin Johnson Flegel of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Charles Flegel of Andrews; four daughters, Mrs. Ruice (Mary Catherine) Lambert of Georgetown, Mrs. Hubert (Beatrice Ann) Platt of Atlanta, Ga., Mrs. Robert (Hazel Pauline) Cox of Pawleys Island, and Mrs. Carl (Patricia Raye) Bankhead of Great Falls; a sister, Mrs. Beatrice F. Ware of Andrews; 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Tuesday, April 20, 1976, in Oak Ridge Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial, directed by Mayer Funeral Home, followed in Oak Ridge Memorial Cemetery.
