Fred Leon Marley, 81, died Sunday, May 19, 2002, in Wichita Falls.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2002 in the chapel of Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home with Reverend Charles Nichols, pastor of Southside Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Crestview Memorial Park under the direction of Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home.
Fred was born November 2, 1920, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He married Gloria Jeanne Baker on Dec. 16, 1941. He served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.
He played professional baseball for the St. Louis Browns and for several semi-pro baseball teams in the area. Fred dedicated his life to helping the youth of the Wichita Falls area, where he coached little league sports, helped with the kid fishing rodeos, and the Annual Field and Stream Kid Deer Hunt. He was active in the Boys and Girls Club Alumni Association, the Northwest Texas Field and Stream Gun Club, and the Longhorn Gun Club. He was the owner of Marley Tile and Marble until his retirement.
Mr. Marley was a member of Wichita Falls Lodge #635 A.M. & A.F. He was initiated March 20, 1946, past to the Degree of Fellowcraft on April l7, 1946, and raised to the degree of Master Mason on May 15, 1946. He later became a 32nd Degree Scotish Rite Mason.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years Gloria; sons Micheal Wayne "Mike" and wife Rhonda of Harrison, Arkansas, David Leon and wife Barbara of Wichita Falls, Monte Lee of Maumelle Arkansas; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; his brother Bailey Reeves Marley and wife Madonna of Harlingen, Texas; and sister Beverly "Colleen" Davis of Wichita Falls.
