Robert Leon Lee

Robert Leon Lee, age 85, died Friday April 5, 2013, at the Craighead Nursing Center in Jonesboro, AR. He was born in Delaplaine, AR on September 4, 1927, to Bertha Ray Lee and Elizabeth Varner. He had lived in Jonesboro since 1967. Leon is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Opal Gillean, and brothers, Bill and Lehman Lee. He had been a member of The First Baptist Church in Jonesboro, AR since 1967. Leon was a member of the University Heights Lions Club, Cattleman's Association and was a previous board member of the Arkansas State University Lady's Basketball Team, working with Coach Brian Boyer. Leon enjoyed and was involved in ASU sports. Leon was a veteran of the US Army, serving in WWII and the Korean Conflict. He began his undergraduate studies in Education at Southern Baptist College in 1950. His teaching career spanned some forty plus years.

Survivors include 2 sons; Benton Lee of Jonesboro and wife Diane, Mike Lee of Jonesboro and wife Tina; 2 brothers Earl Lee from Strawberry, AR and Frank Lee from Paragould AR; 1 sister Beulah Jackson of Russellville, Alabama; 5 grandchildren, Britny Mae Lee, Jennifer Leatha Truelove, Ryan David Lee, Michael Adam Lee and Carissa Dawn Edgar; and 7 great grandchildren.

Services will be held Monday, April 8, 2013, at 2:00 PM at the Emerson Memorial Chapel with Dr. Bruce Tippit officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge. Serving as pallbearers will be John Maury, Stuart Reed, Jeff Long, David Joe Deaton, Tom Rainwater and Adam Lee. Honorary pallbearer will be Ryan Lee.

Visitation will be Sunday April 7, 2013, from 3 to 5 PM at Emerson Funeral Home.
