Waverly Journal, April 18, 1919

Parthinia Amanda Anderson was born December 1, 1838 near Jerseyville, Jersey County, Illinois. She was the second child of Mebane and Maria Anderson, who moved from near Gallatin, Tenn., to Jersey county, Illinois in 1834. She united with the First Presbyterian church of Jerseyville in her girlhood days, the church of which her parents were charter members.
On November 16, 1850 Miss Anderson was married to James H. Christopher of Jerseyville. To this union two children were born, Frank Mebane, who died March 25, 1909, and Edward Anderson of Chicago, who with her grandson, Edwin James of Jacksonville, survive.
In 1863 Mr. and Mrs. Christopher moved from Jersey county to a farm seven miles northwest of Virden; but one year later, in 1865, they took up their residence in Virden, where they made their home till 1883, when they moved to Waverly.
Mrs. Christopher changed her membership to the Presbyterian church of Virden in the first year of her residence there, and on coming to Waverly she transferred her church relations to the Congregational body in which she was most highly esteemed, ever remaining true and loyal to her fellowships. She rarely missed a service, and if so, there was some very good reason, for she loved to be found in the house of God on the Lord's Day. She was a model church goer, being a devoted consistent follower of her Christ and Savior.
There were three brothers and one sister in Mrs. Christopher's family, all of whom are still living, except the eldest brother, who died April 6, 1918. Those surviving are A. J. Anderson of Elgin, Mrs. Jacob Haynes of Virden and Mebane McMahon Anderson of Morrisonville.
Mr. Christopher died August 13, 1912; his loved wife following him to that Land of Perfect day April 11, 1919, after a long illness.
Funeral services were held at the residence Monday afternoon at 1:30, in charge of Rev. S. C. Schaeffer, pastor of the Congregational church.
Interment was in East cemetery.
