Jefferson City Post Tribune, Monday, November 16, 1931, Jefferson City, Missouri
Mrs. Elizabeth Schell, one of the oldest and best known residents of St. Thomas died at her home there today after a long illness. Mrs. Schell, who was 85 years old suffered a broken arm in a fall two months ago and never recovered from the injury.
She had been a resident of St. Thomas for the past 70 years and was the widow of the late S.N. Schell, who established the Schell Trading Company, one of the best known mercantile establishments in central Missouri many years ago. Few women were as well known and wielded a greater influence than Mrs. Schell. Her death is regarded as an irreparable loss by all who knew her.
Her husband preceded her in death six years ago and she is survived by four sons and two daughters. The sons are George N. and Sam of St. Thomas, I.W. of St. Elizabeth, and Peter J. Schell of Jefferson City. The daughters are Mrs. Margaret Schwietermann of St. Elizabeth and Mrs. M. Muchlenkamp of St. Thomas.
The funeral will take place Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock from St. Thomas Catholic Church of which she was an influential member for more than half a century. Father Schmidt will celebrate the requiem high mass and burial will be in the church yard there.
