This was written by Ruby Staples, wife of Dorsey in circa 1980:
...Dorsey K. Staples of Plains, Kansas met Ruby V. (McAdams) Staples of Beaver, Oklahoma after church on January 27, 1934, through some mutual friends. We were married on April 7, 1934 by Pastor Mary Harvey of The Friends Church, south of Plains, Kansas. We lived with Dorsey's parents (in their basement house) for a few months, then later we moved to Plains and lived in a two room apartment house. Charles and Neva Staples shared part one and we shared the other. Managed to save what little Dorsey could earn and go to a show once a week.
...In April of the next year after we were married, we moved to a farm southeast of Plains. Then in 1940 we bought a farm of 640 acres in Colorado. We farmed for several years; Dorsey bought a service station and a hardware store to run that about five years.
...Sometime later a neighbor and Dorsey decided they wanted to go to Missouri. We closed the service station in Colorado and found what we wanted in Dade County, Missouri, near Greenfield (about 75 acres). It wasn't enough to keep Dorsey busy so he rented a building in Greenfield and put in a Hardware and Fixit Shop.
...Then Dorsey got interested in law enforcement and was Deputy for awhile. Of course I, Ruby, ended up looking after the store. Later we bought the store building.
...In January of 1963, after all the snow on the ground and cold weather, we decided to close up the store and went to Florida to visit some friends we knew in Colorado. We never opened the store back up again only to sell the store building and all the merchandise we could.
...We moved into Greenfield into the house we had bought earlier to rent. We fixed it up and added more space in our spare time. Dorsey worked on clocks and small appliances to have something to do.
...We keep busy mowing grass, and keeping up our garden. We look after our neighbors property while they are at work. We occasionally go to Florida to spend Jan, Feb, and maybe March.
