John D. Bowder Jr., 78, Peru, passed away at 8:05 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013, in his residence.

Born July 18, 1934 in Clear Water, Minn., he was the son of the late John D. Bowder Sr. and Elizabeth Stearns. On Dec. 19, 1953 in Dumfries, Va., he married Shelby J. Bourne, who preceded in death on Aug. 25, 1991.

John retired from the United States Air Force in 1973 after 21 years of service.

He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Peru.

Surviving are two sons, John D.S. (Angela) Bowder, Kokomo; and Darrell E. Bowder, Peru; three daughters, Kathy L. Tolley, Climax Springs, Mo.; Penny M. (Harvey) Engel, and Billie (Ricky) Renn, both of Peru; three sisters, Virginia (Melvin) Stavrum; Alice (Joe) Janchar; and Betty (Peter) Stewart, all of Minnesota; one brother, Adrian (Lois) Bowder, New York; 23 grandchildren, and 50 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Bobbie J. Owens and one brother, Frank Niebolte.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013, in the Gundrum Funeral Home, with the Rev. Rick Tolley officiating. Burial, with full military graveside rites, will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park in Logansport.

Visitation will be from noon until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
