Elizabeth (Herman/Harmon) Michael

b. Nov 15, 1843

d. Jan 16, 1917

d/o Samuel & Leah (Fegley) Herman

w/o Levi H. Michael

Elizabeth was born in Kutztown, Berks County, PA to Samuel and Leah (Fegley) Herman/Harmon/Harman. By 1850, Samuel had moved his family to Columbia County were he worked as a laborer and as a carpenter, a skill that would blossum into a full fledge business. Carpenters would often be asked to make coffins and Samuel and his son, Benjamin, would eventually open their own furneral home in Luzerne. The business still exists today and is run by the Harman family.

On May 30, 1867, Elizabeth married Levi H. Michael in the home of Frank & Angelina (Michael) Shuman, Levi's cousin.

To them were born the following children:

Ida S. (1867 - 1873) buried at Michael's cemetery

Cora D. (1869 - 1908) buried at Harger's

Sadie A. (1875 - 1897) Married Edward Daniel Butt. Both buried at Hargers

Lillian Jane (1878 - 1977) Married Emanuel Josiah Bredbenner. Both are buried at Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reading, PA

In Elizabeth's advanced years, she moved to Reading to live with Lillian and Emanuel. She passed away in her daughter's home on Jan 16, 1917.

I can only contribute the lack of dates on Elizabeth's stone to the fact that Levi passed away first. The stone might have been purchased the same time as Levi's. Afterwards, Elizabeth was moved in with her daughter, who perhaps didn't have the funds to get the stone ingraved when Elizabeth died a year later.
