Byrd, 83, died February 14, 1986 after a lengthy illness. Mr. Almond was born January 27, 1903 in Antlers, IT. His family moved to Broken Bow in 1912. In 1921 he moved to OKC where he went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. on July 1, 1921 as a cable splicers helper. Advancing to cable splicer, cable splicing foreman, construction foreman, construction supervisor, exchange engineer. district engineer & district construction foreman. He served approximately 30 years in the latter position. Cable splicing was his specialty & he supervised most of the large cable splicing projects in Western Division. He can truly be called a pioneer builder since he had a large part in building the Oklahoma Telephone Plant from a small beginning to what it was when he retired, February 1, 1968 after 46 yrs & 7 mos. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He is survived by daughter, Marjorie Almond of OKC, a son, Jimmie Byrd Almond of Hugo, 3 brothers, Tony of El Reno, Thomas, OKC & Joseph, Amarillo, TX; 2 sisters, Marybelle Kirksey, Kilgore, TX; Fern Samuels, Los Angeles, CA. Mr. Almond was a member of Putnam City United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be 2pm, Tuesday, Putnam City United Methodist Church. Bill Merritt, Bethany.
