Fremont Barrett was born in Harrison county, Ohio, October 8, 1856, and passed away at his farm home in Pawnee township, September 24, 1937, aged 80 years, 11 months and 16 days.
When quite a young man he moved with his parents to Marshall county, Kansas, where he was among the pioneer settlers of that community.
On December 25, 1880, he was united in marriage with Miss Alice Fitch at Frankfort, Kan. They lived in Kansas until 1899, when they came to Payne county, and settled on the farm where he has lived for 37 years.
Seven children were born to this union, six of whom survive the father. The widow, Mrs. Alice Barrett, survives.
The children ar: Mrs. A.T. Bennett, Ripley; Mrs. G.W. Dowell, Stillwater; Fred Barrett, Olney; W.F. Barrett, Okmulgee; Parker Barrett, California, and Bryan Barrett, Ripley.
A daughter, Miss Elizabet Barrett, passed away October 14, 1928.
He leaves 12 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
He was the last of his family. All the brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
He was under sheriff under Henry Townsend, sheriff.
He joined the Church of Christ in 1905.
He was a member of the Masonic lodge and the Scottish Rite degree.
Funeral services were held at the First Christian church in Stillwater at 3 o'clock p.m., Sunday, September 26, 1937.
Burial was in Fairlawn cemetery under direction of the Strode Funeral Home.
Stillwater Masonic lodge had services at the grave.
Members of the Ingalls Masonic lodge, of which he was a member, furnished the pallbearers.
Had he lived until Christmas he would have been married 57 years.
