Obit from the Spokesman-Review, Spokane Washington, Sunday 24 Oct 1926:
"WEST SINCE '53, SHE DIES HERE
Mrs. Bernard, 86, Oregon Pioneer, Lived in Spokane Since 1889
After a short illness Mrs. Anna G. Bernard 86, a pioneer of Spokane, dies at the home of her daughter, Mrs A.R. MacCallum, S 627 Howard at 5 p.m. yesterday. She had been apparently in fair health when stricken with a cold a few days ago, necessitating her confinment to bed three days ago. The cold and developing complications combined with old age, hastened her death.
Mrs. Bernard had been a resident of Spokane for more than 37 years, coming here before the big fire of August 4, 1889. She had crossed the plains in an ox team wagon in 1853 with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. David King, who settled in Corvalis, Ore. She married Sid H. Bernard on May 3 1856 and 15 children were born to this union, seven of whom are living.
Her only surviving daughter is Mrs. MacCallum at whose home she died. The six surviving sons are: W.H, Bernard, Orofino, Idaho; Otis, Sandpoint, Idaho; Ralph, Lewiston, Idaho; Fred V., Opportunity; L.C., Santa Barbara, Cal; and R.L., Juneau, Alaska. There are also 10 grand-children and four great-grand-children and three sisters surviving. Mrs. Bernard's husband preceded her to the grave by several years.
The body was removed to the Smith & Co. mortuary, where it is awaiting funeral arrangements." Anna Gragg King Bernard is buried at Greenwood Memorial Terrace, Spokane, Spokane County, Washington. There is a misspelling on her marker. On her marker her middle name is spelled Gregg rather than Gragg. Buried in Lawn 7 along with Anna are several of her children and one granddaughter. Her eldest, William Henry is buried in her grave. (There is no marker for William.) Charles Clement and Frank King Bernard share a stone in Lawn 7. Ralph W and his wife Blanche have a marker in Lawn 7. According to the cemetery office their daughter Lorena Lucille is buried next to her parents. She is without a marker. Also buried in Lawn 7 and without a marker is Anna & Sidi's youngest daughter, Ella Maudell Bernard Marsh McCallum Bakke. She is buried under the McCallum name.
