MERIT O. BERGE
PIONEER WOMAN TOWN LIBERTY
Mrs. Marit G. Berge, nee Marken, pioneer resident of the town of Liberty, passed away at her home Saturday at the advanced age of 88 years. Death
was due to infirmities of age and for several weeks Mrs. Berge had been confined to her bed.
For nearly 70 years, Mrs. Berge had been a resident of Liberty, and during the greater part of that time had lived on what is known as the Berge homestead, having married Galbrand O. Berge(sic), February 22, 1856. Mr. Berge preceded her in death thirty-six years ago. Mrs. Berge was born in Valders, Norway, December 24, 1835 and arrived in America with her parents July 4, 1863.
Mrs. Berge is survived by four children, Oscar C. Berge on the old homestead, Mrs. H. Belbo, Danbury, Wis., Mrs. S. Thompson, Eaton and Otto G. Berge, of Valders. One sister, Mrs. S.? of Eaton Severson also survives and there are eleven grand children.
Funeral services for Mrs. Berge will be held from the home at 2 o'clock Tuesday to the First Valders church, the Rev. O. A. White officiating.
