At a few minutes past 5 o'clock this morning the rider upon the pale horse summoned to the realms of departed spirits one of our most aged and highly respected citizens, Mrs. SAMUEL JENNINGS, SR. His mortal remains will be interred in the burying ground here on the forenoon of Christmas Day. Ministers David Ausherman and Eli Yourtee, of the German Baptist Church are expected to perform the religious ceremonies of the obsequies. Mr. Jennings has long been a member of the German Baptist Church, but during recent years he was unable to attend preaching. He has been almost blind for several years.
On Friday last Mr. Jennings underwent a surgical operation for the removal of cateract from both eyes, by a Washington oculist.
On Sunday last your correspondent visited Mr. J. and found him comparatively comfortable with respect to his eyes, but he was otherwise ailing; his symptoms became exacerbated and the attendant physician, Dr. J.T. Yourtee, despaired of his recovery.
Mr. Jennings was in the 78th year of his age. His burial will take place upon an anniversary of his wedding day, he having been married on Christmas day fifty-seven years ago. His wife, who survives him was Miss Sophia Nichols.
Their living children are: Mr. George H. Jennings, Ponoma, Iowa; Mr. Wm. Jennings, Brunswick; Mrs. Martha Grim and Messrs, Samuel and Emanuel Jennings, resident of this valley.
