Rev. Rev. Robert O. "Bob" Alvey , 77, went to heaven Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Deaconess Downtown, Evansville. After joining the Army at 17 years of age and the completion of his tour of duty, Bob was a long haul truck driver having received his Teamsters card in 1958, a coal-miner, member of the UMWA, an operating engineer with Local 181 of the IUOE, and a farmer; however, his first love was the Lord and the Lord's ministry until his death. He served in southern Indiana as pastor of Sharon, Scott Township, and Helfrich Ave General Baptist Churches; in Kentucky he pastored Reed Community Church near his home, where he was a member. His hobbies were studying the Bible, watching NASCAR races and farming. Bob was born to Rev. Joseph T and Mable R Alvey near Stanley, Kentucky on July 25, 1935. They preceded him in death. Others preceding him in death were his wife, Mary Ann (January 2013), two sons, Robert Jr., and Darrell, daughter Donna and a brother, Eddie T Alvey. He is survived by son, Randy and his wife Darla Alvey of Henderson, Kentucky, and sister, Mrs. Pat and her husband Jack Boyer of Newburgh, Indiana, two sisters-in-law, Wanda Abell and Geraldine Crowell, and one brother-in-law, Rudy Lee Midkiff. Also surviving are grandchildren, Christina (Richard) Mount of Chandler, Indiana, Richard Leistner, Michael Simmons of Evansville, Indiana, and Roger (Jamie) Alvey, of Henderson, Kentucky, six great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to Bob's Life Celebration from 3:00 to 7:00 PM Friday, March 1, 2013 and again on Saturday starting at 1:00 PM at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, Henderson, KY. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday at the funeral home with Jack Boyer and Randy Alvey officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date.
